What to Expect

Mombasa through local eyes

Mombasa is one of East Africa's oldest port cities — a crossroads of Arab, Portuguese, British and Swahili cultures that left their marks on every street corner. Our City Tour takes you through all of it, on foot and by tuk-tuk, with a guide who can read the city like a book.

You'll walk through the winding alleys of Old Town, pass under the famous elephant tusks on Moi Avenue, visit Fort Jesus, and end at the vibrant Marikiti Market — one of the most colourful markets on the East African coast.

Tour Highlights

What you'll see & do

🏰

Fort Jesus

A UNESCO World Heritage site built by the Portuguese in 1593. Your guide brings the battles, sieges, and stories alive.

🕌

Old Town Walk

Narrow streets, carved wooden doors, mosques and Hindu temples — five centuries of trade layered on top of each other.

🐘

Moi Avenue Tusks

The iconic aluminium elephant tusks — built for Queen Elizabeth II's 1952 visit — now one of Mombasa's most photographed landmarks.

🛒

Marikiti Market

A sensory explosion of spices, fabrics, fresh produce and street food. The real Mombasa, in full colour.

🛺

Tuk-Tuk Ride

Zip between stops in a colourful tuk-tuk — the best way to cover ground and feel the city's rhythm.

Swahili Tea Stop

We break for Swahili spiced tea and mandazi at a locals-only café that's been pouring the same recipe for decades.
